My position, as the tour planner, is to create a memorable tour that you will want to do again! I am your intermediary between all the operators that will make this experience a "Once in a Lifetime" event. Oh - I forgot to mention, I am a Kerr too!!!
Of course, we want to see everything we can that revolves around Clan Kerr and many of the stops will be just that! We will tour historic homes & castles which have served nobles from Clan Kerr, Queen Mary Stuart, Sir Walter Scott, along with today's Queen Elizabeth.
Along with the home tours, we will visit other sites of historical significance such as the William Wallace Memorial, The Waterloo Monument, and Hadrian's Wall. Top this off with tours of Lochcarron of Scotland, known for their beautifully woven tartans, and the National Record Archives with a private historian to help guide us through lineage searches.
Planned visits: (Scheduled Itinerary Here)
Castles & Houses: Floors Castle, Cessford Castle, Ferniehirst Castle, Monteviot, Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood House, Abbotsford, Linlithgow Palace, Stirling Castle, Mary Queen of Scots House.
Of Religious Nature: Melrose Abby, Kelso Abby, Jedburgh Abbey, Dryburgh Abbey, Rosslyn Chapel.
Other Stops of Interest: Waterloo Monument, Jedburgh Jail, Lochcarron, Hadrians Wall & Chesters Fort, National Records Archives, Wallace Memorial, The Kelpies.
Many stops will be accompanied by tour guides at the appropriate locations.
Plans still in the "works" will be a private tours of Monteviot and Ferniehirst by the Curator with a business casual dining event to embrace the heart of Clan Kerr. We are finalizing dates & times - I will then work with the caterer.
A week FULL of something for everyone!
The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo Show - the Tattoo is an amazing cultural display of pipers, Hjaltibonhoga (Shetland Fidlers), and Tattoo Dancers. The stage is set in the esplanade of Edinburgh Castle - the perfect backdrop for an event of this caliber!
The Highlands Add-on - with this 2-3 day addition (based upon participation), we will be visiting Fort George, Speyside Whiskey Distillery, Culloden Battlefield, Loch Ness, and Urquhart Castle. Transfers to the airport are also included. Mini Coach or Train transport will be dictated by the number of those who choose this add-on. Fort George may be substituted for Scone Palace based on the number of participants and chosen transportation.
As final details emerge, I am pleased to estimate pricing to be relatively accurate (based upon UK/US exchange rates). Please remember that this tour is far from a "cookie cutter" type program, therefore, some very small, but important details are still being worked through.
Primary Tour (July 29-Aug 6) $3500 based on double occupancy. This includes -tour tickets, accommodations, breakfast, 2 lunches, 4 dinners (one is the Ferniehirst party, ), mineral water in transport. Transportation to/from airport, private guide at applicable stops, local tax (VAT).
Add on Highlands Tour - $1200 pp based on double occupancy. This includes tours, accommodations, breakfasts, train tickets, or a mini-coach to Inverness. This price anticipates 3 nights' accommodations.
Edinburgh Tattoo Show - Premium seats $313, Standard seats $185 (These prices are estimates based on 2021 rates with a slight increase calculated in advance. If there is no price change from 2021 to 2022, it will be credited on the final payment due). Prices include service fee & VAT.
Not included: gratuities to tour guides, flights, travel insurance. Meals are outlined in specific itineraries, there will be a few days where "your time" will be made to explore on your own and find meals suited to your taste - "walkable" areas such as Jedburgh & Edinburgh.
Once I can see where everyone will be flying from, I will be able to negotiate group rates with the airlines, if you agree to layover at a major airport such as JFK, Boston, or Chicago. These details will be worked out down the road.
Those who choose to add on the Highlands Tour will be flying into Edinburgh but departing from Inverness.
Choosing to fly with the group is not, at all, mandatory - if you would like to spend an extra day or two in Scotland, we can always arrange for accommodations for early arrivals or later departures.
Solo travelers not comfortable with a roommate can have personal accommodations. Pricing details will be updated soon, as I wait for answers from my Scotland colleague.
